The Steering and Sailing Rules in three groups
Le regole di rotta in tre gruppi
| Rules | When they apply | What they cover |

4-10 | Always, in any condition of visibility. | Look-out, speed, risk of collision, action to avoid collision, narrow channels, traffic separation. |
11-18 | Only when vessels are in sight of one another: seen by eye, a radar echo is not enough. | Overtaking, head-on, crossing, sailing vessels, give-way and stand-on, order of precedence. |
19 | Vessels NOT in sight of one another, in restricted visibility. | Here there is no "give-way" and "stand-on" vessel: everyone must act. |
- First ask yourself: can we see each other by eye? If so, Rules 11-18 apply.
- If we cannot see each other, Rule 19 applies.
Remember. 4-10 always. 11-18 in sight. 19 not in sight.
